About
Michael Braswell was born and raised in Moultrie, Georgia, a land of farming communities, yellow pines, country roads and long, hot summers.
He earned degrees in psychology and counseling from Mercer University, the University of West Georgia, the University of Georgia, and the University of Southern Mississippi.
In addition to working as a psychologist for the Georgia Department of Corrections, he taught in the Department of Criminal Justice at the University of Southern Mississippi and the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at East Tennessee State University. He was also a licensed marriage and family therapist.
In the seventies, he and his wife, Susan, started Pilgrimage, a small academic press which was acquired by Anderson Publishing Company. He served as Acquisitions Editor for Anderson, working closely with William Simon, Vice-President of Marketing. Since that time, he has been a consulting editor with Lexis-Nexis and Elsevier. He is currently a consulting editor with Routledge Books.
Michael has published books in criminal justice and related areas on ethics, counseling, policing, prison violence, sexual abuse within the church, teaching justice and other social and criminal justice themes. He has also published books on the spiritual journey, growing up in the South, sports and religion as well as two novels and three short story collections.
